Puja and Stephen are married!

Hi All--

I've spent the past few days with college friends in Singapore celebrating the marriage of Puja and Stephen.

Singapore is a hot and bustling city. A tropical and squeaky clean New York with soaring high rises everywhere and resort prices on every corner ($15 cocktail? I'll take 6!). My experience in town was primarily shaped around three nights of wedding revelry: an Indian wedding ceremony, a night of cocktails at the gorgeous Raffles Hotel, and finally the culminating wedding event with the stunning bride in white and a blowout dinner reception at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa Island.

Anyone in attendance at these events knows I cannot do justice to the relaxed elegance and refined charm with which each of them was carried out. Puja and Stephen were the sort of perfect couple for which marriage is such a natural step in their relationship that no one fussed over details or formalities. Energy instead focused on the celebration and congratulations of the couple. The parties were each exquisite and--importantly--fun.

Beyond the wedding, my personal observation of Singpore was overshadowed by an untimely bout of travel sickness, and I did not wander the city much beyond the luxury shopping strip of Orchard Rd., where Louis Vuitton neighbors Dolce & Gabbana, and indoor air-conditioned malls offer up every possible temptation. From the retail to the automated tolls on the roads, Singapore is a place where money disappears into the humid, sultry air.

Shoutouts to my travel companions for the Singapore leg: John, Marina, Neel, Matt, Kelly, Tommy, and Andrew. Andrew and I will be headed north from the luxury island to tackle a more ascetic experience in Southeast Asia.

More to follow,
Sarah
